ayabie was a visual kei band whose music evolved into a more mainstream sound over time. The mood of their music fluctuated wildly, ranging from catchy, happy tunes to heavy songs which inspired headbanging. They were not afraid to cross genres when it came to their music and used it to their advantage, attracting fans not only in Japan, but all over the world.
The band went on hiatus in 2010, when four of its members departed to form a new band called AYABIE after it was revealed that vocalist Aoi would be pursuing a solo career. However, after holding one-off reunion shows over the years, the members eventually found their way back together and restarted activities in earnest as ayabie.
