The first half of this year has been very busy for MUCC, who performed in thirty-four places in the USA with western bands such as AVENGED SEVENFOLD and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE for the Taste of Chaos Tour 2008. Then, after returning to Japan, they performed in the hide MEMORIAL SUMMIT at Ajinomoto Stadium and continued on to a domestic tour, Rainy Rave. In the middle of recording a new single due to be released this summer, MUCC talked about the first half of 2008 and what they hope the rest of the year will hold for the band.

Today, before talking about your new release, let's talk about the first half of this year. I think that the biggest thing for you has been the Taste of Chaos Tour. After coming back to Japan and doing the Rainy Rave tour I think we all felt that there was something different.

Tatsuro: Yes. I think my way of singing and my MC has become more out going than it was before. I had to be like that during Taste of Chaos for things to work.

For MUCC, was America like playing an away game?

Tatsuro: We didn't feel like it was away. But it wasn't home either. It seemed like a gray zone. Thinking about how I could draw the audience into the gray zone, I started to appeal to them more and more, I think. It was fun and as I did more they responded more.

Your sound has become Americanized, and I mean that in a positive way. Your music is heavy, but very catchy. You have really changed that, right?

SATOchi: Before going, we talked about exaggerating things a little to appeal to American audiences. At first we thought as we played, but during the last half of the tour it just came naturally. So when we came back to Japan we still played liked that, as it comes to us naturally.

YUKKE: On the Taste of Chaos Tour, as I watched ATREYU perform, I felt like my back was being pushed the whole time, as though people were saying, "You can do more!" And we brought that back to Japan, I think.

How about Miya? You often put your hand to your ear and ask the audience to cheer louder, especially in Shinkiba.

Miya: I think I did that before, but now I do it more. I think that there are many kinds of lives and a lot of ways to enjoy them. What we do is not new and I think that there are other Japanese artists who do it too. But we like western music and since we were able to play overseas to a foreign audience, and experience playing in these concerts ourselves, I think playing this way comes to us very naturally now and is not forced in any way.
