As we head toward the end of 2023, have you been wondering what kind of music took Japan's streaming services by storm this year? Spotify unveiled their year-end charts recently, highlighting the most streamed songs, albums and artists of 2023 in Japan,
and also which Japanese artists racked up the most plays from overseas fans.
The big winner this year was pop unit YOASOBI, who took the top song of the year with their hit opening theme for the anime series "Oshi no Ko", Idol, which also helped them become the most played Japanese artist overseas. YOASOBI also
won the bronze for most streamed artist in Japan, with pop singer Vaundy taking second and pop-rock band Mrs. GREEN APPLE scoring the top spot. However, overseas fans put R&B singer Fujii Kaze and girl group
XG in second and third place instead.
Fujii Kaze took the number one song overseas with Shinunoga E-Wa, while Idol ranked second and Kenshi Yonezu's opening theme for the anime series "Chainsaw Man", KICK BACK, took the third spot.
