Rock band RADWIMPS released their soundtrack for the film "The Last Ten Years" on digital platforms today.
The soundtrack contains 30 songs, including the movie's theme song Ms. Phenomenal. Links to download and stream the release on various online music platforms are available here.
The movie "The Last Ten Years" is based on the award-winning novel of the same name, originally published in 2017. Directed by Michihito Fujii, the film also hit theatres today. It tells the story of Matsuri, who is diagnosed
with an incurable disease has only 10 years left to live. She decides to not dwell on the end of her life, and vows not to fall in love, but when she meets Kazuto at a school reunion everything changes.
This is the band’s third movie score, which follows their work on the hit anime films "Your Name" and "Weathering With You". It is their first time creating a soundtrack for a live action movie.
RADWIMPS frontman Yojiro Noda read the script and wrote the theme song and part of the film score before the shooting began. The music was delivered to the movie cast and staff, who went into the shoot attempting to merge the same sonic
feeling with the imagery.
Yojiro Noda commented: "It was a new challenge to score a live action film for the first time. I experienced many hard moments trying to figure out how our music can accompany the characters and propel them forward. In total, I think I’ve
seen the movie close to 100 times during the process of scoring it, but when all the arrangements were done and we completed the final orchestra recording, I felt the tears rolling down my face while watching those scenes combined with the music. I think
everyone can find new meaning in life by watching this movie and Matsuri’s life story."
Director Michihito Fujii commented: "When I first read the script of 'The Last 10 Years', I had images of Matsuri and Kazuto softly accompanied by Noda’s music. From the
inspiration he got from the script, Noda started writing music before the shoot began so we got to listen to the music throughout the shoot. I think Noda literally led my way to finish the movie. They were the happiest
moments. I hope you can experience that in theaters."
