Rock duo Zwei was formed in 2003 by vocalist Ayumu and bassist Megu.

The duo described their initial style as a synthesis of J-pop and UK rock. To this end, their 2004 debut album was produced by British composer Nick Wood, and the 2005 follow-up Z featured a track co-written by Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran.

In 2009, Zwei signed with 5pb. Records, and they have since focused on producing songs for various anime and video game series. They are currently one of the only all-female acts working in that field.
