GELLONIMO

GELLONIMO

Originally, the band was formed in 1994 by Miyabi (vocals, ex-Kuro Ageha), with four other members: Shinya (guitar), Hideto (guitar), Nobu (bass) and Tomo (drums, ex-scream). Nobu left the band for a period, but after a short period of supporting Antique doll he returned.

However, after participating in an omnibus album, which was released in September of 1994, they disbanded.

Miyabi started Fairly Tricks, Tomo joined 34567 and the other members stayed inactive for some time. Between activities, the members acted as support musicians at several concerts. Hideto later became a member of THE DEAD POP STARS while Shinya went through various small bands, until he finally settled with the band, oxide.

In February of 2004, Miyabi resurrected GELLONIMO. Support members Yuu (bass), Akira (guitar, ex-Cerberos) and Aki (drums, ex-xPhearx) joined him. Then, in April they released the single Yamato damashii, and GELLONIMO began to perform live once again.

In June that year, they participated in several events that were organized by the Climax label and toured across the country. They performed with well known indies bands, amongst them Metronome and Babylon.

In May 2005, it was finally time for a new single, Kotodama. Around the end of the year, they performed at several events again. Another single was released in January of 2006, entitled Bonno accompanied by a number of performances.

Since then, GELLONIMO has retreated to near silence in the music industry. However, the band has continued playing at select events and shows. One of the more recent shows played was in December of 2008, when the band performed at Rockmaykan. Miyabi even keeps a blog, discussing events at the bar, and anything related to the band.

Aside from the band, the members have plenty of other activities. Next to running his Visual Rock bar, Miyabi is also the vocalist of an Ozzy Osbourne Tribute band, together with some members of the band Sleazy Wizard. Akira meanwhile, did some concerts together with Syu of AUSHVITZ and Galneryus.

You could say their handful of 'second generation' releases are definitely more successful than the first, but they are still quite unheard of. Perhaps GELLONIMO will decide to step out of the shadows and back out onto the stage to continue to bring more music to fans everywhere.
