Japanese music download site HearJapan has announced new releases by 8bit/chiptune masters
Saitone and
JulieHally.
Firstly,
Saitone have recorded two tribute tracks to the late
Michael Jackson, which are currently available for download. The classic songs
Thriller and
Smooth Criminal have been reworked in this modern-day mash-up, using '80s technology. These tracks, as well as other releases, can be downloaded
here.
Saitone also have a new album due out on February 22nd 2010, details of which are expected to be released at a later date.
On November 25th, HearJapan will be offering a sampler of
JulieHally's new release
265 e.p.. Unlike
Saitone's instrumental style,
JulieHally combine their energizing 8bit rock with both male and female vocals sung in a robotic style. These downloads can be found
here.
In addition to this, both bands will be performing at the world's biggest LAN party, DreamHack, in Sweden. DreamHack is a giant LAN (local area network) party in Sweden that features various video game competitions at a place for like-minded people to gather and connect. Since the early '90s the event has gradually grown, eventually setting the Guinness World Record for attendance for such an event in 2007 with over 10,500 computers.
Saitone and
JulieHally will perform at DreamHack's winter event on November 26th. Further details can be found on
DreamHack's official website.
