Metalcore band Sailing Before The Wind released a new digital single today.
As the title suggests, Cross the Ocean (Rerecorded) is a rerecording of a song that was originally featured on one of the band's first EPs, Horizon, released back in 2011. A special release commemorating
the band's 10th anniversary, this new version features guest appearances from vocalist kneeya (now a member of ovEnola) and guitarist Takaya (now playing with SLOTHREAT), two of the group's founding members.
The lyrics are said to have been rewritten around the theme of the band's 10-year struggle to get out of Japan's small metalcore scene. Musically, the song is said to be a tribute to Sailing Before The Wind's Myspace metalcore roots, aiming to bring
back a classic guitar-oriented metalcore sound.
Sailing Before The Wind was formed in Tokyo in 2011, operating as a fully independent band with no label and no management. Throughout its history, the band had numerous line-up changes, leaving bassist Bitoku, who has written and engineered
all of the band's releases, as the only constant member.
In addition to Bitoku, Kneeya and Takaya, the song features Ryoichi, Daisuke and Kosuke, members of the current line-up playing with Bitoku, on backing vocals, and a drum arrangement from Hiroki, another member of the current line-up.
