Visual kei band Pentagon have announced that they will be disbanding in February 2020.
In a message on their official website, the band stated that this
decision comes as a result of numerous discussions between the members and their staff. They thanked the fans for supporting them until now, and asked them to continue watching over them as they take on new challenges in the future.
In individual messages about the disbandment, the members explained their feelings in more detail. Vocalist Chizuru assured the fans that this is not due to the members disliking each other or becoming fed up with the band. He wrote that
he was originally just focused on becoming famous when the band first started about five years ago, but that his attitude towards life, music and genres shifted dramatically during the years he spent performing with Pentagon. He wrote
that he originally suggested disbanding the group back in 2017, but the members decided that there were still things they could do as Pentagon, which is why the band experimented with various genres and held events with a wide range of artists
last year. Bassist Minpha explained that he also originally moved to Tokyo and started playing in a band only with the vague goal of wanting to be popular, but in 2017 he started longing to express himself more. Drummer Atsuki stated that
while he loves the band's members and the music they have created, he feels he has become too comfortable in Pentagon and wants to push himself to continue growing as a musician. The members all stated that they are looking at this break-up
not as a sad moment, but as a positive step forward.
The band will embark on a final one-man tour titled Nandemo nai hi ni kimi to hanashi ga shitai on August 17th. It will wrap up with a birthday show for Minpha that will be held at Shibuya Stream Hall on November 24th.
