Girotin is the Japanese pronunciation for the French word "guillotine." However, because the band's name is written as ギロチン, it is not entirely clear how the band meant their name to be interpreted, so half of their fans say it's Girotin and the other half calls them based on the French pronunciation.

The band's music is a mix of hard metal and pop influences that can be found mostly in their musical refrains. Girotin's music can be compared to the early works of D'espairsRay, a band that started at the about the same time and even played on stage with Girotin. Altogether they were not perfect musicians and would have arguably improved over time (most notably this is true of their vocalist Shinobu). But for those who enjoy unusual voices, it is worth tracking down their music just to hear him sing.

Initially, their onstage outfits at lives were similar to World War II German uniforms. About a year after their debut they changed their style to leather clothes similar to those that many VK bands were wearing at the time: costumes with a strong S&M theme. Those who saw Girotin live said that both outfits fit quite well with their music.
