Lullaby (Limited Edition)

Miura Daichi

Released on December 12, 2010, Lullaby is Miura Daichi’s tenth release and comes straight after his immensely popular single, The Answer, released back in August.

Striking piano chords that frame the song and the line “baby just close your eyes” open Miura Daichi’s end-of-the-year single, Lullaby. The title track is a low-key R&B number, but the vocals are closer to that of a ballad. The listener can almost feel the youth and vitality within his voice; the song is bright but not pop. The concept of a lullaby is found in the piano playing in the background, and in the lyrics and vocals. The listener cannot help but smile in delight as the song concludes.

The B-side, Drama, takes a slightly darker tone with an abundance of deep bass lines. As if one were in a packed room with bodies swaying to the beat, the synthesizers rise and fall in the background and mimic the movement. Such importance is placed on the backing track as it stands out more than the vocals, and it is extremely intricate. Miura Daichi’s singing suits the track but should be louder, or the backing track volume should be brought down a notch. His voice doesn’t match at all in the first verse and doesn't catch on until the hook. However, the short span of falsetto at about 2:43 goes almost unnoticed. The highlight of the song comes right at the end where you finally get to hear him without the bass on the backing track. Though it's only for a short moment, that is where he shines best.

The single is available in two editions, regular and limited. The limited edition includes a DVD containing the PV for Lullaby and a dance session of Drama.

The PV for Lullaby can be viewed via Avex’s channel on YouTube.
