SAKURA ~ SAKURAP ~

christy.

christy., the club organizer sensation signed to Tri Phill Gold label who loves to mix fashion with music, released SAKURA ~ SAKURAP ~ in March. As her first single, SAKURA ~ SAKURAP ~ incorporates R&B, hip-hop and J-pop.

With a simple piano ostinato throughout, the title track is refreshing and crisp. Chimes and chords accentuate the beat, and the clapping sequence is subtle but effective. It’s very clear cut, balancing cool vocals and enjoyable rapping well. Kenichi Takano’s velvet voice fits in perfectly to the song during the chorus, and overall, it is incredibly memorable.

Blindness, the second song, has little sparkle and magic. It sounds too laid back, with rather sleepy singing and a flat tune. There is no resurrecting this song as the problem isn't just a lack of energy, it lies within the actual composition. The repetition here makes this song a bore as the melody is not catchy enough at all.

Even though fifty percent of the single is atrocious, it’s worth purchasing this purely for the title track, as you can listen to it plenty of times and still love it. Also, check out RSP, the hip-hop/R&B dance unit that has put out a version of the song, and Kenichi Takano’s version, too. In the future, christy. could successfully do more singing, as her voice has that mainstream appeal. Keep an eye on this young female artist; she has the potential to be a big hit.
