OVERLAP - Anime Version

Kimeru

Recently, Kimeru’s music has privileged atmosphere and synths over vocals that are kept in the background. However, OVERLAP is one of Kimeru’s earlier releases and will give you a sense of the sound he is best known for. This third single of Kimeru's perpetuated his early image as an anime song maker. His first two singles were used for the anime series “Prince of Tennis,” and OVERLAP appeared in another popular shounen anime series, “Yu-Gi-Oh!”, a show that fits well with his energetic and optimistic sound.

OVERLAP offers a rich, full atmosphere thanks to its synths and layers of guitar notes glinting playfully all through the song. The base and guitar collaborate in the refrain to create a sprinting, action-packed mood, while Kimeru’s voice monopolizes the encouraging melody. A thoroughly inspiring song, OVERLAP feels very unique, even among other anime songs or optimistic pop tunes.

OATH IN THE STORM has a much faster beat right from the get-go, and in conjunction with various synths darting throughout, the song derives its energy from this rhythm. With relatively light background music, Kimeru’s voice is really highlighted in this piece. The pace is broken up by a piano and guitar duet in the bridge, resulting in a stronger impact of the beat when it returns. Again an encouraging number, OATH IN THE STORM also features instances of a darker, more somber mood interlaced with its dance club energy.

While not representative of his newer style, this single boasts the energizing style and sound that made Kimeru a star. It's a must-hear for any J-pop or anime fan.
