Fresh off heels of the successful release of their self-titled debut album, abingdon boys school returns with their next single, BLADE CHORD. The title track is also the opening theme for the video game SENGOKU BASARA 2 Eiyû Gaiden - HEROES.

A solid rock number, BLADE CHORD is not a forgettable single. The track opens with a military flute and an accompanying rhythmic marching. The familiar dual-guitars of SUNAO and Shibasaki make their entrance, and the smooth, youthful vocals of Takanori stampede in, making the entire sound one expects of a.b.s. Also not missing are the aggressive bridges and upbeat refrains, in which the guitars and vocals mirror each other, emphasizing the mood of each. The track shows minimal involvement from programmer Kishi, but the few sound effects and electronic inserts are nicely placed for a minimalist approach. Something new the band introduces is backing vocals, which are rough and suited to the heavier, deeper guitars found in their tracks. BLADE CHORD rounds out nicely and delivers just as expected, while still distancing itself from the album with unique guitar work.

The B-side, Desert Rose is immediately an auditory pleasure. It enters with a sound similar to that of Taniuchi Hideki of Shocking Lemon and Death Note soundtrack fame. Takanori is able to bring in a very catchy chorus that is easy to sing along to, and it will surely stick with the listener. Overall, the track is generally more melancholic, but it doesn't leave any lasting depression thanks to the uplifting guitar work later in the track, which differs completely from the introductory phrases. The finale uses all aspects of a.b.s.'s music, and closes with a solidifying piano note.

BLADE CHORD is a worthy sequel to all of the rock quartet's previous tracks.
