Released on March 28, 2007, 21 Seiki is a fairly recent single for anime voice actress and singer Momoi Halko, though she put out a slew of releases the following year. Halko is one idol who will be busy for some time and may appear overseas near you, for instance at an anime convention. For an introduction to her music, 21 Seiki is one good place to start.

21 Seiki is an immediately like-able, life-is-good pop song that will have you feeling cheerful and at ease. Though the song is a happy, sunny number, it also has a relaxed, easygoing air, rather than the hyper excessive energy one might expect. Halko's voice is high and somewhat playful; at the same time it's earnest and easy on the ears. The mellow guitar lends the song a light rock atmosphere while the synths throughout give it a video game, alternate reality feel.

The optimistic lyrics in the danceable chorus are honest and unassuming, even as they evoke the escapist world of anime: "I'm living in this city in the twenty-first century. It's a little different than anime but it's a glittering world." Definitely a song that's easy to listen to over and over, it's also one the younger generations of the world can relate to.

The second track, RADIO DAYS RADIO NIGHTS, has a motivating fast pace and some driving guitars that give it a little edge. Compared to the previous song, Halko's vocals are a little more playful, like one might find in an anime character theme. Still, her voice is pleasant to listen to and her encouraging words are easy to catch. Moreover, the rocking guitar solos contrast nicely with the pop sound of the keyboard.

The single also includes instrumental versions to both songs, which are pleasant enough to listen to on their own. Overall, 21 Seiki is another fun release from Momoi Halko with two instant pick-me-up's you don't need to be an anime fan to enjoy.
