Nightmare - Raison d'être

A brilliant new single from Nightmare.

NIGHTMARE

With complex rhythms and deep, full-bodied melodies, the songs on Nightmare's newest single are rousing examples of the skill this band possesses. From luxurious vocals to pulsing bass work and every element in between, Nightmare has definitely mastered their art and are only getting better and better.

A fantastic instrumental opening kicks off Raison d'être. Ni~Ya's bass work is outstanding, a highlight of this track. Also featuring exceptional guitar work and solid drumming, this song alone would be enough to make the single a standout. Yomi's vocals are simply phenomenal. A hard-hitting instrumental break splits the song mid-way. This is a must-listen to tune in Nightmare's repertoire.

The mellow intro to Jojou teki ni sugi ta jikan to fu kakutei na mirai e no requiem boasts a superb bass line and softly sung lyrics. A couple of short guitar solos add interest to this already wonderful mosaic of sounds. The bass line throbs underneath slightly jazzy guitar riffs and Ruka's skillful drumming.

Criminal baby, a song that is also included on Nightmare's the WORLD ruler album seems like just a throw-in on this single. It features great guitar work from Sakito and Hitsugi. Along with Ni~Ya's ever impressive bass prowess, Ruka’s quick-paced, heavy drumming, and Yomi's smooth, rich vocals, it's a good song, but not quite a necessary addition on this single.

Far from disappointing, Nightmare's latest release is everything one could hope for from such a talented group of artists. Combining the delightful instrumental work in Raison d'être, sentimental vocals of Jojou teki ni sugi ta jikan to fu kakutei na mirai e no requiem, and tossing Criminal baby in for added flavor, the band has managed to produce a well-rounded single that is 110% worth more than one listen.
