Maki Goto - Secret

While at points quite lovely, Secret is another slightly generic song in the RnB ballad genre. The melody is a pretty mix of instruments with occasional orchestrated pretensions that seem to be an attempt to build drama. Maki's voice is quite pretty, but some may find her vocals a little nasal. There is nothing necessarily bad about Secret but it is unfortunately a rather forgettable and sub par ballad.

Inner Child is a much more exciting song with an eighties synthesized disco melody. Maki has some attitude and sass in her vocals and they become a bit less nasal as a result. She manages to hit all of her notes without straining or going off key but the high pitched nature of Maki's voice will not be for everyone. It also sounds quite generically Hello! Project in its style but it is at least more interesting to listen to than Secret. Secret wraps up with an instrumental version of the title track.

Secret is not a particularly groundbreaking single for Maki Goto. While Inner Child has its sassy charms, it may not be interesting enough to carry the entire single.
