BIGMAMA delights listeners with interesting, emotional rock music, which is accompanied by lovely violin. The band's story began in 2001, when vocalist Masato Kanai, drummer Ib Riad, guitarist/vocalist Hiroya Kakinuma and guitarist Fukasawa started playing together as BIGMAMA.

The first four years were pretty quiet, but they officially entered the music business by releasing their first demo during that period. Their second demo was released in 2004 and was the first to feature a new member; female violinist Yokota. During 2005 they were featured on a few different omnibus albums.

In May 2006 BIGMAMA informed their listeners about upcoming mini-album, which was set for release on July 5th. The band was taken by surprise when it sold over 10,000 copies. For a band as new as BIGMAMA, it was a quite an unusual number. In June, their third and last demo hit the markets. Unfortunately, their first major setback also came that September when guitarist Fukasawa and violinist Yokota decided to leave the band. As a result, they went on hiatus briefly.

The year 2007 started positively with BIGMAMA's return. In February they surprised the fans who attended their concert at Ebisu LIQUIDROOM by informing them about their new members; the band's first bassist Hiteto Yasui and a new violinist, Mao Higashide. That summer, they released their first single with this line-up. It seemed like the band had truly come together, as since that line-up change BIGMAMA has continued to pop out releases at a fairly regular rate. The band's first studio album was released in December.

At the beginning of the next year, they focused on creating new material and playing concerts. BIGMAMA had the opportunity to play their first open-air concert as well, taking the stage at the Rock in Japan Festival 2008 alongside big names like ELLEGARDEN and ART-SCHOOL. Their next set of new songs came in the form of a single, Weekly Fairy Tale that September, but the real surprise was just coming up: a new album was already on its way. Dowsing for the Future hit the markets a few months later, and BIGMAMA also contributed a song to the ...of newtypes vol.3 omnibus.

In March 2009, BIGMAMA went on a coupling tour with the telephones. The 22nd of July saw the release of their fourth single, Diamond ring and they played at SETSTOCK'09 only a few days later. Afterwards they surprised their fans once again, as the time for another album had already come. and yet, it moves ~Tadashii chikyuu no mawashikata~ was released in November.

Like in previous years, BIGMAMA focused on making new songs at the start of the year. In February, they hit the road to promote their new album, but when summer came it was time to go play festivals. In October, the band released the cover album Roclassick, which went on to become a huge success. The album saw the band cover several masterpieces of classical music, from artists like Beethoven. At the end of the year, on Christmas Eve, the band released the single I'm Standing on the Scaffold.

In July 2011, the single Himitsu to Lucy saw the light of day, and only a bit later, in September, another called #DIV/0! joined it. BIGMAMA had released a new album at the end of the year for the two previous years, but that year saw them break the trend by releasing their first DVD instead. The DVD covered two concerts; the first one was from their "Roclassick" release tour 2010-2011 - Haha to Iku, Miwaku no Shinsekai no Tabi tour, which was held on March 30th. The second concert was filmed at a charity event held at Shibuya La.mama.

The next January, BIGMAMA released their third album. From that alone, it seemed like it was going to be a busy year for the band. And it was, as they released another two singles and their second live DVD before the year was through.

During 2013, they released a single, an album and another DVD. However, it seemed like that wasn't enough, as they rereleased their three previous albums in lower-priced editions, hoping to make their older material available at a reasonable price for the band’s many new fans. The year ended with information about a new single, which is set for release in February 2014. The band also hinted about the release of a second Roclassick album sometime this year.
