The group was created by vocalist and guitarist Shin in 2000. The line-up was completed by bassist Mai, drummer Yuta, Ajo on wadaiko, u-ky on koto, Nan-Zan on shakuhachi and Atushi on guitar.

In 2001 the band released its first album, Darkends, which reached first place on the website MP3.com's Metal Charts, even outdoing American artists such as Marilyn Manson and Slipknot. Through this worldwide website, HeavensDust's popularity reached Europe and America and the band opened on stage for many famous bands.

In 2005, Higher Than Heaven, Louder Than God, HeavensDust's third album was released worldwide. The band toured with one of the most prestigious Japanese metal bands, Yamaarashi, and was also reviewed in various musical magazines.

In 2006, HeavensDust played for the "DIVIDE" soundtrack, produced by Tujioka Masato. Also that year, the song Before I Die aired on MTV-Japan which help the band to gain more popularity in Japan.

In May 2007, some time after the released of the new album Without A Voice, bassist Mai left because of his child, which had become a big part of his life. The band then changed its line-up with Okaji on drums, Zen on bass and Hisashi on guitar.

In July 2008, while HeavensDust worked on a remix album, Shinsaku announced via MySpace that the band signed with Hensley Music Group, an American label. This provoked new change in the line-up as Ajo, Hisashi and Nan-Zan left the band and the remaining members moved to the United States. Hideki took then took the role of guitarist, joined by Take, a taiko (Japanese drums) player and Dai, a shakuhachi (Japanese flute) player.

In June 2009, Kazha, who was in the band since 2006, left the band too, leaving Shin full responsibility of vocals. Soon after, bassist HAL and guitarist 5hiNo' joined the band while Zen and Hideki's name disappeared from the line-up.

The band activities continued throughout the year but at a snail pace. In 2010 a new mini-album called To All The Things I've Lost was released in the iTunes store. Later that year, the band once again became six members as Aio returned.

In 2011 HAL left the band to form his own band, Diana, and Kyoshi joined not only as bassist but also as a koto player. In December, the band announced through Twitter that they are working on a new album.
