Gyaruru

Gyaruru were first mentioned on April 23rd 2007, when sifow unveiled in an interview with Gyaru fashion magazine “Ranzuki,” that she had recently become the producer of a three member unit. The following day, at a promotional event at a club in Tsuchiura, Gyaruru was unveiled to the public.

The original line-up consisted of unit leader Tsuji Nozomi, who was well-known for her ties to Hello! Projects groups Morning Musume, W (Double U) and Mini Moni. The other members were introduced as Tokito Ami, who is best known as a gravure idol and Gal Sone, who is recognised as a champion competitive eater. Within the group the members were known under the acronyms Tsujiji, Amimi and Sonene respectively.

However, the following month, unit member Tsuji Nozomi announced that she was pregnant and soon to be married to actor Sugiura Taiyo and consequently left the group. A mere week later, Abe Asami, who is best known as the younger sister of popular idol Abe Natsumi, was unveiled as Tsuji’s replacement.

On June 20th, the new line-up held their launch event at Shibuya Tower Records and on the same day released their debut single Boom Boom Meccha Maccho!. The title track was used as the ending theme for the TV Tokyo’s “Kitty’s Paradise PLUS” and peaked at number 19 on the weekly Oricon single chart.

A few days later, Gyaruru performed their newly released single on Fuji TV’s popular variety show “Mecha-Mecha Iketeru!” A week later, they held a free commemorative live at Shibuya C.C. Lemon Hall on June 30th at which the popular girl groups Canary Club and THE Possible also made guest appearances.

In May 2008, Gyaruru’s blog “Minaraikko Gyaru Blog ~Mr&Miss~” was closed to the public, seemingly bringing an end to the unit’s activities.

Despite Gyaruru’s short-lived career, their enthusiasm when it came to creating feel-good eurobeat music cannot be faulted and bought a new awareness to the subculture of ganguro.
