Signed to the Avex label in 2000, misono debuted as the main vocalist and lyricist of day after tomorrow in 2002. The band achieved a fair amount of success in their three-year career, charting two singles and two albums at the number 2 position in the Oricon charts. However, after the group disbanded in 2005, it would be a full year before misono would reappear as a solo artist under the same label.

All four of her first singles as a solo artist charted in the top 20, with her debut single VS getting the most recognition. A debut album called never+land was released soon after, with a collection of fairy tale-inspired pop-rock tracks. However, the album was not a success, due in part to lack of promotion by her label, and partially because of the significantly low number of new songs on the album. Out of a total 12 tracks on the album, only 4 of them had not been previously released.

The relative failure of her debut album hasn't put a stop to misono's activities, however, as she continues to release singles with the same trademark upbeat pop-rock sound she's become known for. She is also an aspiring actress, and has already graced the silver screen in the lead role of the movie Obochan Chips.
