Radio Caroline

Radio Caroline consists of three band members that have already gained a lot of popularity and success from their former bands: Patch was the leader of the underground-punk band The Violets, Ueno Koji was the bassist for the internationally-known Thee Michelle Gun Elephant and Shinya “MR.SHENN” Kusubu was the drummer for the very famous band The Neatbeats.

In 2003, the band started its activities after Ueno and Kusubu had quit their respective groups and joined Patch’s project, who had named the band after the most famous pirate radio station in Europe.

It took a while before the band released their first album Dead Groovy Action, but it finally came on May 19th, 2004 on Triad, a Columbia Records division, which means that they'’ve been major from the beginning. The critics were enthusiastic and impressed by their debut and so advanced the band in a short time to a reference-band for their music style.

A year later they released the mini-album Glow, who's style wasn’'t much different from the first album. Again, the critics were enthusiastic. After participating in a tribute album for the band THE ROOSTERS, the band started to focus on their own songs again which were released in October 2005 on the album All out. The tour that followed to promote the album was completely sold out.

Radio Caroline released their first live DVD in 2006 and participated in an omnibus album again before releasing their first single in June. The band kicked off the beginning of 2007 with a spring tour, before jumping into the extreme summer tour. By 2008, along with their release of the album, Death or Glory, the band spent the early months of the year on THE RODEO CARBURETTOR tour.

In 2009, much to the display of their fans, Radio Caroline announced they would be going on an infinite hiatus after they performed at DESPERATE 7 ROCK'N'ROLL NIGHT. At this time, there is still no news on the future of the band, but hopeful fans await the day that Radio Caroline returns.
