Angel'in Heavy Syrup

Angel in Heavy Syrup was formed during 1990 in Osaka by Itakura Mineko (vocals/bass) and Nakao Mine (guitar). Some time after this Mandrake Yoko (drums) joined. The band did not have to wait long to be signed to a record label as the band hooked up with Hiroshigeto . He produced their first album which was released one year later. Thanks to a connection to the American record label Subterranean Records, their album was published in the United States in 1992. In the same year, Mandrake left the band and was replaced by Takahara Tomoko, who also played flute on some of their songs. At the same time Toda Fusao, their second guitarist, joined.

In 1993 their second album was published. It is notable that Toda and Nakao played xylophone on the album, this development made their music sound even more psychedelic. This album too was published by Subterranean Records in the USA. Their third album was released in 1995, but it was published by a different American record label. The US album version contained a special bonus track which appeared on the band's second album that was not released in the USA. For the next five years, the band became inactive, and the band members joined different projects.

Nakao worked on a compilation of Alchemy Records. On this album many different bands, mainly female, recorded Noise-Rock, as a kind of tribute to their "chief". Itakura founded the Noise side-project Slap Happy Humphrey, which was wamly welcomed by the scene fanbase.

In 1999 the band managed a little comeback with their album Angel'In Heavy Syrup IV, the album title reminiscent of the numeric system of Led Zeppelin. This album was published in parallel in both Japan and the USA. Also this was the first album without the now retired Takahara, who was replaced by support-drummer Otani Naoko. The band stayed together for another three years, before publishing a "best of" album and disbanding.

Toda Fusao joined Christine 23 Onna, where she is currently playing with the famous Japanese Noise-musician Masonna aka Yamazaki Maso.

The whereabouts and history of the other band members since 2002 is unknown. They may have joined or started other band projects, but little or nothing is known of them.
