When SOPHYR began their activities in 2001, they consisted of three members: vocalist kamun (ex Rä Noirphia), keyboardist takashi, and drummer kazuya. Band leader kamun’s responsibilities were song lyrics, composing and developing the bands image. Despite many similarities between SOPHYR and Rä Noirphia, SOPHYR was clearly more rock-influenced compared to the relatively classical sound of kamun’s earlier band. With the help of session musicians, SOPHYR released their first demo, Kuusou choka no unmei no tobiran, in October 2001.

Guitarists hideaki and bassist Teppei joined the band in 2002. In July, SOPHYR’s first mini-album, including one remixed Rä Noirphia song, came out. In addition, the schedule for their nationwide tour was announced and a VHS was released. The future seemed promising, yet, things didn’t go as planned. Suddenly, SOPHYR decided to end their career at a concert held on August 22, 2002.

After SOPHYR disbanded, most members, including kamun, found new groups within the next few years. takashi joined the bit less visual band Suzzy&Caroline, kazuya became a member of Mira Vills and Teppei joined the group moll’e node.
