CONCERTO MOON

CONCERTO MOON

Concerto Moon was founded in the autumn of 1995 by Takao Ozaki (voc.), Norifuri Shima (gt.) and Kosaku Mitani (ba.). Their first live, however, was not held until a year later in Osaka.

With Osamu Harada on keyboards and Kichioka Nobuho behind the drums, their original line up was complete and they released their first album in April 1997. Live Concerto was, as the name states, a live album and was initially limited to 500 copies.

After Nobuho was replaced by Ichiro Nagai, Concerto Moon was ready for studio recordings and released Fragments of the Moon a few months later. This new CD was featured in the legendary BURN! magazine with rave reviews.

Later, Harada also left the band and Toshiyuke Koike joined as their new keyboardist in January of 1998. Soon after this, their first live video was released. The VHS featured 60 minutes of their tour final from August 9, 1997.

By then, the five metal heads managed to make a name for themselves and signed a contract with VAP Records (also home to Animetal, Galneryus, Gun Dog and Zwei). Under this label they released their first major album, From Father To Son, in July 1998.

After the re-release of their indie disc, Fragments of the Moon, which included three bonus tracks, they went on tour with Finnish metal band Stratovarius.

In 1999, three other CDs followed: Time To Die, Rain Forest and a live album. These albums preceded the release of their second live video in March 2000.

One year later, in April, the German label Limb Music released their European only album, The End of the Beginning, which contained live songs from their show at Shibuya O-West from September 18, 1999 and a bonus CD with live videos.

Three weeks prior, Limb Music released another three albums by the band: Fragments of the Moon, From Father to Son and Rain Forest.

Following Ozaki's departure from the band, having been replaced by Takashi Inoue, Gate of Triumph was released in August. After yet another change in their line up, with Nagai leaving and Junichi Sato joining, they released another three albums in 2002-2003, Destruction and Creation, Life on the Wire and the live album, Once in a Life Time.

After Mitani and Sato were replaced by Takanobu Kimoto and Shoichi Takeoka, they released the mini-album, Concerto Moon, in June 2004.

After the Double Cross was their next full length album. Released in July of that year, a second disc featured covers of songs by bands such as Deep Purple, Alcatrazz, Brian May and Rainbow.

Between this time and mid-2008, there was little activity from Concerto Moon. However, in July, they released two albums, Live Concerto - Re-Mastering 2008 and Rise From Ashes. Additionally, they celebrated their 10th anniversary and performed in San Francisco at the Bay Area Rock Festival on July 27-28.

They closed out 2008 with another album, From the Tomb to the Womb.
