CANDY CANDY will be released early next month on April 4, 2012, but the PV was just unveiled at Warner Music Japan’s YouTube channel only a few days ago. The PV can be seen below.

The intro to CANDY CANDY starts off with a gentle tinny electronic organ that is reminiscent of a music box. So far, this fresh track sounds like a combination of the melody and pacing of her previous single, Tsukema Tsukeru and of course, the wild PONPONPON with mildly repetitious, simple but cute lyrics.

Yet CANDY CANDY (PV) tells a different story. The PV begins with Kyary running in slow-motion down a street with a piece of bread hanging from her mouth. She runs for what seems like an eternity until she reaches the interior of a production studio where her backup dancers stand in position, waiting. Then each dancer in the background comes to life and begins to dance in time with Kyary. Some shots are converted to a manga-style panel—hilarious!

However, the role and meaning of the onion is hard to grasp—whether the brown onion represents things in this world that are not visibly cute or taste sweet like candy, or that some things are cuter because they not visibly cute. When Kyary sings the line “candy love” three times, the onion answers back each time with a sound like a electronically created quack that a duck would make—cute! After Kyary fires pink bullets towards the onion, it doesn't seem affected but its appearance changes slightly.

Enjoy the PV!
