Record label Universal Music will digitally release a tribute album in honour of the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise on August 19th.
The aptly-titled SONIC THE HEDGEHOG TRIBUTE will contain a mix of eight vocal and instrumental interpretations of background music from the franchise's early days, all originally composed by Masato Nakamura. Two tracks are performed by Nakamura's own band, DREAMS COME TRUE.
The remaining six come courtesy of singer-songwriter Vicke Blanka; 'creative unit' PKCZ®; EDM producer banvox; experimental soul band WONK; Vocaloid-turned-anison producer kz; and WagakkiBand shakuhachist Daisuke Kaminaga, who participates alongside Famikoto, an ensemble that covers popular theme music exclusively using traditional Japanese instruments.
The album's release will coincide with the Japanese opening of live-action film "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", locally re-titled as "Sonic the Movie/Sonic VS Knuckles".
