R&B singer-songwriter aimi will release her third EP, titled Chosen One, on February 9th.
The EP’s lead track of the same name, dedicated to everyone who has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, has been released as a standalone single on January 26th, and can be listened to on all major digital platforms.
In addition to the title track, Chosen One will also include the previously released songs The Fool, The Lovers and Lovesick, as well as four new tracks produced by famous R&B producer Shingo.S. Paying homage to 70’s soul music, 90’s and 00’s R&B, 90’s New York hip-hop, afrobeat and trap R&B, this new opus is described as a love letter to the contemporary R&B scene.
aimi commented: "Japan had its first case of COVID-19 in mid-January 2020 and within months, the country closed down. That was the same year I launched my first R&B project. Like many people worldwide, with the restriction on travel and strict social distance guidelines, my only choice was to stay home. With R&B music by my side, I was slowly able to emerge from lockdown, take my own time to reflect and choose things that best suit myself and make me feel good. I was able to let go of toxic and disrupting relationships with some people, and instead focus on cherishing the ones who really care for me. So this entire EP is inspired by my own personal experiences and emotional rides as a young woman - trying to learn from the mistakes and to make better decisions."
