Since leaving the popular Johnny's boyband
KANJANI∞ last year to devote his attention fully to making music,
Shibutani Subaru has been fairly quiet. On April 26th, he officially announced that he will be restarting activities as a solo artist this year.
Aiming to reach fans all over the world,
Shibutani has started a new label called "World art" in partnership with Warner Music Japan. He has announced that he is planning to release a CD on it this fall, but no other details are available at the moment. He has also launched a new fan club called "Shubabu". It is only available for fans residing in Japan at the moment, but staff are said to be working on a way to extend membership to fans overseas in the future.
Shibutani joined Johnny & Associates in 1997 at the age of 15, and he stayed with the agency for 22 years. He made his CD debut as the main vocalist of
KANJANI∞ in 2004. In 2015, he made his solo debut with the single
Kioku / Kokoro odoreba, which was tied up with a film he starred in titled "Misono Universe". He released a cover album titled
Uta in 2016.
A short video featuring recent footage of
Shibutani in the studio is available on his
