J-pop trio
Swinging Popsicle have just released a new digital single.
The single is a cover of the song
You've Got A Friend, originally recorded by
Carole King in 1971. The song was made popular later that year when it was covered by
James Taylor and has since been covered by dozens of artists across the globe.
The band formed in 1995 and released their eponymous first album in 1998, featuring the hit singles
Joy of Living,
I Love Your Smile and
Parade.
Swinging Popsicle have performed overseas several times, having had their US debut at
Fanime MusicFest in San Jose, CA, back in 2006. The following year, they also performed at
Anime Mid Atlantic in Richmond, VA.
Swinging Popsicle chose to release this cover song in order to thank the fans for "their friendship of fifteen years". This will be the group's first digital single in four years, with their last one being the 2008 single
At Christmastime. You can download their cover of
You've Got A Friend through
iTunes.
