BREAKERZ are celebrating their fourth anniversary today with a concert at the famous Nippon Budokan venue. JaME had the opportunity to hold a short interview with the successful group before the show to talk about their anniversary and their new single.

Could you please introduce yourself for people who don’t know you yet?

SHINPEI: BREAKERZ is challenging various rock sounds under the concept that we break existing thoughts and ideas to make new things! Please listen to the sweet and strong vocal of DAIGO, gorgeous and melancholic guitar sounds from AKIHIDE, and wild guitar sounds from SHINPEI!

Which one of your song you would recommend to listen first for people who never had a chance to listen to your songs?

AKIHIDE: There is much of the music of various countries such as the UK and USA in Japan. BREAKERZ is influenced by such foreign music as we express our rock with Japanese melodies and words. I think you will feel fresh when you listen to our music. We want you to enjoy listening to it as you like; moving or listening to it silently.

In July, you’ll celebrate your fourth anniversary at Nippon Budokan, do you feel the same than the first time you performed there?

DAIGO: No. Budokan is a special place we have dreamed of playing, so we’re always excited to play there.

Your new single LAST † PRAY / Zettai! I LOVE YOU was released on 13th July. The two songs seems to be really different: LAST † PRAY seems like a dark song and Zettai! I LOVE YOU seems to be a happy song with a really funny PV. Do you usually try to do totally different songs on one single? Or are you trying to stay within the same theme?

SHINPEI: Hot and hard sounds, cool and driving sounds, gentle and heartwarming sounds……BREAKERZ has all of them, so we hope you could understand our music as we put various types of songs in one single.

Could you tell us more about these two new songs: LAST † PRAY and Zettai! I LOVE YOU? Who writes the lyrics and who composes the music?

SHINPEI:About LAST † PRAY, DAIGO wrote the lyrics and AKIHIDE composed. About Zettai! I LOVE YOU DAIGO wrote the lyrics and composed too.

AKIHIDE: In Japan there was a big earthquake in March. Even though we didn't suffer from that directly, we had a deep sadness in our minds because we are also Japanese, so we were searching for light to get out from there. LAST†PRAY was made as we were thinking that. Strong beats and guitar sounds like they break darkness. We want you to listen to the lyrics in which we express searching for light from sadness.

DAIGO Zettai! I LOVE YOU was made under the theme that we really need ‘love’ in our life. I’m sure you can fly high with this song!

Now you’re going to celebrate your fourth anniversary, what are your goals for the future? Have they changed from the beginning of the band?

DAIGO: We have been working hard throughout, and we won’t change that. Our goal is to get better all the time.

Could you please give a message for our readers?

AKIHIDE: We receive many mails of support from overseas. Our music reaches you overseas. We are very happy about that and we get energy from you. We haven’t played lives overseas yet, but we want to see you someday, so please continue to support us.

JaME would like to thank BREAKERZ and their management for making this interview possible.
