Tanimura Nana - If I'm not the one/SEXY SENORITA

Tanimura Nana shows the two sides of a woman.

With her fourth single If I'm not the one/SEXY SENORITA, R&B singer Tanimura Nana proves that she can sing other types of songs in a very impressive way. On August 13, 2008, the CD was released in three different versions; this review will focus on version A, the CD+DVD press.

This version starts with the touching ballad If I'm not the one. With soft piano chords, strings, acoustic guitar and sensitive and surprisingly varied vocals, the song deftly attracts listeners. The small sticker on the CD case reveals that this song was also used in the drama "Yotsu no uso." The next song, SEXY SENORITA, seems pretty wild and lively after the previous slow ballad. The second track of the single sparkles with sexy rhythms and fast, fiery vocals which were paired with Oriental elements, fast beats and different paces. Somehow, it makes you think of American singer Christina Aguilera's earlier works. The third song is another emotional ballad accompanied by classical instruments, but this time the ballad is very schmaltzy. However, the song also contains a wonderful piano and synthesizer bridge.

As mentioned above, this version contains a DVD as well. On the disc are the music video of If I'm not the one and the featured making-of. The clip produced is very emotional. Despite happy scenes and bright colours, the clip itself seems very calm and conveys a feeling of sadness and loneliness. Towards the end, a few words refer to the continuation of the story in the video of SEXY SENORITA. Within the making-of, which lasts four minutes, you get a lot of B roll material and scenes from the photoshoot for the CD jacket. The instrumental version of If I'm not the one overlays the entire clip.

If I'm not the one reveals Nana's emotional and sexy side. The extras on the DVD could have been more extensive, but the quality of audio and picture makes up for it. In the end, you will agree that version A of the single is worth having.
