AAA - BEYOND~karada no kanata

Turn your wheel of fortune.

On May 28, 2008, three versions of AAA’s single BEYOND~karada no kanata could be found at music stores: a limited one, one with an extra CD and the regular edition. This review is of the regular edition.

The single starts with the title song BEYOND~karada no kanata, but unfortunately, the track soon grows disappointing: the weird structure, with fast drums and a droning bass, are paired with vocals that are either too slow or too fast. What you get is neither well-rounded nor clear. The B-side One Night Animal, with its disco feeling and some entertaining effects in music and vocals, is more exciting. Afterwards, the buyer of the regular press gets to enjoy the “83key Remix” of MIRAGE, which is saved by its mysterious touch despite of the strong, offputting electronic sounds; it's a song that invites repeated listening. The instrumental counterparts of BEYOND~karada no kanata and One Night Animal are the obligated supplementation of the whole single and bring the CD to an end.

For those who know AAA, the title track won't be anything fresh or new, but the B-side and the remix are pretty good - in fact, they remedy the disappointing A-side and are the saving grace of the single. There is only one thing left to say: Let’s dance!
