KLACK - No.NAME

Continuing with the pop rock style of the previous single MACHINE, No.NAME carries on with the same themes. The song No.NAME, meaning number name, tells of a world where people's names are substituted with bare numbers. Loud drums and noisy riffs are the remains of KLACK's punk-ish origins and are now blended into a danceable melody.

Sorry, I'm Late concentrates on quietly building up strengh, which gets released in the chorus, making the song seem like kind of a calmer version of the recent single title tracks. The track includes a passing mention about blaming the government for the condition of today's Japan - this mere sentence is the first clear social commentary ever since the comeback, proving the formerly rather controversial band has taken a huge step in being more subtle.

The last track on the single, After All..., is a 14-second long melodic track, complete with vocals. Such short additions were used as interludes between the songs on the debut album and bring out positive memories as they worked creditably in creating a ragged wholeness, but placing similar tracks on a maxi single easily just puts an unnecessary emphasis on how much - or how little - the fan is getting for his money. In this view, After All... unfortunately doesn't seem to find its place.

All in all, the single doesn't seem as original as MACHINE and the songs don't stay in your head. It does, however, try to mix several kinds of genres into one, and may interest fans in where the now increasingly more mainstream styled band goes next.
