HYDE is currently touring Japan with his
HYDE Orchestra Tour 2026 JEKYLL, a series of concerts dedicated to his softer songs. On January 29th, international fans had the opportunity to experience the tour by watching one of the concerts streamed
live from Tokyo Garden Theater.
For European fans who are wishing to attend a live performance, there are still tickets available for a concert
in Vienna, Austria on May 25. As of now, this live in Vienna
is the only confirmed overseas date for the
JEKYLL tour.
As the stream began, fans eagerly posted excited comments in Live Viewing Japan's chat window.
HYDE opened his performance boldly with an unreleased new song,
DIE HAPPILY. During the first phase of the concert, the stage was rather
dimly lit, evoking the atmosphere of a mysterious night.
HYDE wore a long dark coat and a brimmed hat. The fur scarf around his neck can be a somewhat questionable choice for an accessory these days, but it did match the classic, sophisticated style he was going for. Like the outfit, the stage setting also radiated the elegance of bygone times, featuring a lantern-style pole lamp and a grand-looking chair adorned with artistic wings on the backrest.

As the title suggests, on this tour
HYDE is supported by a diverse orchestra in addition to the usual guitar accompaniment. In touching ballads, instruments such as the violin and cello play an important part, while the saxophone and trumpet stand out
in the jazzy arrangements of
DEFEAT and
HONEY.
HYDE's next album,
JEKYLL, will be released in March. Out of the new songs performed on this tour,
SO DREAMY left the strongest impression, proving to being worthy of its name.
SO DREAMY is a grandiose composition filled with
a sense of longing, with a touch of wintry atmosphere in its soundscape. Overall, the song resembled a classic style of movie music–a notion undoubtedly reinforced by the orchestral accompaniment. The romantic
FINAL PIECE was also one the loveliest
moments of the evening, with a starry sky created over the stage during the performance.
The concert was held on
HYDE's birthday, so a special moment was anticipated during some part of the show. The celebration began amusingly in the middle of
HYDE performing
DEFEAT, when the classic
Happy Birthday to You melody started playing over his music.
HYDE's musician friend
DAIGO pushed a catering trolley onto the stage, with a large cake as the centerpiece, made following the Austrian Sacher cake tradition. After a few celebratory moments with both
DAIGO and the audience,
HYDE blew out the candles. It was time to return to the music.

In the latter half of the concert, the audience experienced a special combination of songs. First,
HYDE sang
EVERGREEN, his gentle solo debut from 2001, and then continued with
THE ABYSS, his latest single, officially released
on the day of the concert. So much has happened during the nearly 25 years between these two songs. While both songs have a melancholic tone to them thematically, musically
THE ABYSS sounds notably darker and more tense.

HYDE Orchestra Tour 2026 JEKYLL began in mid-January, so fans knew the previous shows had closed with
LAST SONG. With
HYDE performing it, the concert was seemingly nearing its end. However, the set list for this show had been slightly reorganized
for a surprise:
YOSHIKI arrived on stage wearing a white suit jacket and carrying a large bouquet of roses. After a friendly back-and-forth between the two friends,
YOSHIKI sat in front of the piano. First, he played the birthday song for
a bit, after which it was time to perform their collaborative song
RED SWAN. This brought the evening to a memorable close.
