Earlier this month, Oricon chart-topping boy group JO1 welcomed a full audience at The Belasco in Los Angeles for their first headlining world tour, JO1DER SHOW 2025 'WHEREVER WE ARE.' Selling out both their LA and NY stops, the J-pop group marked a major milestone in their history.

JO1 originally debuted in 2020 as the first permanent group from the reality competition show "Produce 101," and they have attracted fans worldwide with their musical talent. The fire of "Produce 101" not only helped to forge their performance skills, but to both grow international interest in the group and showcase lesser-known sides of the members.

Their agency Lapone Entertainment pulled out all the stops for this tour, as their stage production rivaled the ones previously done for their performances at the K-pop convention KCON. Impressively, songs like Black Out included theatrics in their introduction: a rainy, stormy opening accompanied by theme-appropriate somber lights. Although The Belasco is modest in its size, JO1’s presence alone filled up the entire space and even as an eleven-member group, they made the stage work to fit their choreography.

Kicking off the night with Love seeker, the members were ready to show their fans, known as "JAM," a night they wouldn’t forget. Given that their last appearance in LA was during KCON 2023, fans were eager to see their slick dancing and edgy stage presence. And of course, JO1 delivered with an intense introductory set of three songs focused solely on dancing, making way for improvised moves while maintaining the chemistry between the members. During GrandMaster, which felt like a nod to their fifth anniversary, the eleven members each showed off their individual growth since they first performed the song at debut. Some decided to show off their breakdance prowess during the dance break, while others took the chance to engage with fans as they took turns rotating in and out of the limelight.

In a group with as many individuals as JO1, it’s easy to get lost and overwhelmed as a fan or as a member. However, JO1 spoke to the crowd in English with the confidence of speaking to their own hometown. “Everybody, make some noise! I’m the one with the most puppy face,” Issei Mamehara said with ease. Even if they weren’t confident in their speaking skills, they would joke and make light of the situation. “I miss you,” yelled Ren Kawashiri. “I’m fine, thank you. And you?!” He gave a wink to the common phrases taught as easy-to-remember conversational English. “We heard that American fans have amazing reactions,” said Sho Yonashiro. “The cheers in LA are on another level. How do you feel guys? I think the members' energy will be like no other as well. This is the first city on our world tour and our first ever concert in LA. We’re super super excited!”

Each member’s ability to captivate the audience and draw cheers is a testament to their development since their rookie days. It’s difficult to maintain confidence in a non-native language, however, JO1's professionalism shone brightly, as they knew how to provide an invigorating variety show during their talk segments. They were able to strike a perfect balance during the gaps between the choreography-heavy songs and the vocally-demanding songs, proving how multifaceted the group is.

The back-to-back tracks, Be With You (Ashiato) and BLOOMING AGAIN, highlighted the vocals of every person singing, no matter how short. By blending intriguing light work, dance, and perfect sound mixing, the production showcased JO1 both as individuals and as a group. Every song fused a balanced assortment of movement and flow, allowing a mix-and-match combination of shape formations within the eleven members that fans could only see at a live concert. By taking advantage of the sheer size of the group, JO1 can perform as a unit that is a sum of its parts. As eleven dancers, they are flexible with their dancing and positions, which they took every opportunity to show off, especially during Eyes on Me.

The variety segments helped to cement the chemistry they have together and allowed JAM to see the performers as a big group of longtime friends. This night in LA was also special because it happened to be Ren’s birthday, and his bandmates secretly arranged a cake for him. Alongside fans—who brought their own signs to celebrate—the members sang “Happy Birthday” together. They joked with Ren, asking how old he was and commenting how big the cake was too. Others pretended to throw the cake at the crowd, but of course, this was only playful banter.

Even after giving their all during the last song of the set, Test Drive, JO1 decided to give JAM as much fanservice as they wanted. From showing off their chiseled physiques to throwing their towels into the crowd, the eleven members of JO1 ensured no one would go home unsatisfied. After a brief pause, they came back one last time for a final encore song: RadioVision. Performing with bright smiles as they danced in harmony, JO1 made sure JAM left the venue jumping and hollering. They left with one final message to the crowd: “Everybody is so hot!”
