Starting something new might be hard, especially when it comes to going solo after being in an idol unit. However, a new story begins where the previous one ends, and so it did for MANATY last year when she released her first EP as a solo rock singer,
Resolution. Many debut works might be rough around the edges, but in this case, all of the elements fit perfectly: powerful and memorable vocals, skillful songwriting, and fast rock tracks that are sure to create chaos during live
sets.
The EP doesn’t give the listener much time to take a breath, instantly catching one's attention with the combined speed and emotions in Fly High!! and fling. Mixing in some light punk and ska influences, MANATY sings these songs with enough feeling to start a circle pit, which the audience gladly does at her concerts.
Things get more interesting with the title track, Resolution, which is perhaps the EP's best. The rhythm here is slower, which helps put MANATY firmly in the spotlight. The singer perfectly balances the gentle and loud vocal parts while the music further highlights her voice by creating the appropriate mood. As for the finale, Hello, Good Bye leans more towards the pop side of things, acting as a relaxant after the preceding craziness.
This debut EP offers a mix of talent and sincere emotions, wrapped into the fast-paced, adrenalized musical package. Full of energy, it is a pleasure to listen to again and again. Indeed, some songs are catchy
to the point where you may still catch yourself humming them days afterwards.
