Interview with TATEDUKA2000

TATEDUKA2000 is a versatile professional in the music business: he's got experience with producing live house events, working as a DJ, creating his own sound, and more. In this short interview we wanted to especially highlight his recent releases and his ideas about creating music. In addition, we talked about his plans for the year 2022, and also his hometown of Toyama.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

TATEDUKA2000: Nice to meet you all! My name is TATEDUKA2000. I'm a Japanese artist and DJ who has been making music based on dance music, digesting rock, funk, hip-hop, and pop. Recently, I am also active as a member of the band TEE TEE TEA. Since the 1980s, I've been active as a band member at live houses all over Japan, mainly at Shinjuku LOFT. After working as a manager of live houses in Shibuya and Shinjuku, a radio DJ, and managing a bar, I started my own business in 2019. I'm currently active in planning, producing, casting, and providing music for events from two locations: my hometown in Toyama City and Tokyo. On July 20th, 2021, I released Midnight Lover, followed by KISS ME BABY, NEROLINQ, and REMOTE DISCO every month in succession. On October 30th, I released TATEDUKA2000 EARLY WORKS 01, a remastered album of past works, and on November 20th, Christmas Blue, the best Christmas song ever.

What is your biggest goal in your music career?

TATEDUKA2000: I want to be the person you hope to be. No matter how many times I fail, I will get up again and push forward to achieve my goal. Right! I will do what I feel is the right thing to do, even if the people around me disagree. The only options are "do it" or "do it". I hope that by letting you see my life as a musician, I can give you courage and energy. I want to be a person of hope who can give courage and energy to everyone. I would like to be a person of hope. I'll leave things like money and honor to the stars around me.

How would you describe your music?

TATEDUKA2000: I think I make music that is both 10 years ahead of its time and from 20 years ago at the same time. I think I'm making music that's ahead of the trends, but it's also nostalgic, warm, and full of humanity.

What kind of genres do you like?

TATEDUKA2000: My first influences were David Bowie, Duran Duran, Culture Club and Wham! I was really influenced by UK pop in the 80s. From there, I moved on to punk rock, hardcore, hiphop, and ska. After that I started DJing on my own. I also love black music such as soul and funk. Hmmm. I love all soulful music, and I'm not interested in any other music.

What kind of emotions do you want to evoke in your listeners?

TATEDUKA2000: "Too bad! Too good! It's too good, it's too good, it's too good, it's too good! I'll do my best, too! Let's do our best! Let's do our best." If it makes you feel that way... That's the ideal. That would be ideal.

Please tell us about your project where you release a new song every month. Where did the idea come from? How is it going so far? Are you planning a big finale for this project?

TATEDUKA2000: After the COVID-19 pandemic hit Japan, I couldn't do any more events with music, so I returned to Toyama, where I am from, from Tokyo. However, I wanted to continue to send out messages through music. I've been releasing a new song every month since July this year. This is a lot of work (laughs). But I'm happy that by consistently releasing new songs every month, I'm gradually being heard not only in Japan but also overseas. I'm also happy that I'm being interviewed like this now, and I want to show it off to my mom and dad. I don't have a finale in mind. I'm going to keep releasing these songs every month, and I'm going to become a world star.


What are your plans for 2022?

TATEDUKA2000: Finally, I'm able to perform live in Japan, not only in my hometown Toyama, but also in Tokyo, Osaka, etc. By the end of 2022, I want to have successful live performances overseas. I want to perform in Asia, America, and Europe, earn more and more money, and spend all the money I earn in those cities before returning home (laughs). Even in Japan, I'm currently leaving Tokyo and sending out messages to the world with the support of my hometown Toyama City. I hope to become famous so that people from all over the world will come to visit me in Toyama! I hope so. Toyama has both the sea and mountains, and it is very attractive. There are ski resorts, hot springs, and gourmet food. The people of Toyama are warm and welcoming.
Anyway, I'd like to keep releasing consistently and touring at the same time. I don't care how advanced online is, live music is the best! I'll be there, so I hope you'll be there.

Is there anything you want to promote?

TATEDUKA2000: I'll introduce myself again. I'm TATEDUKA2000. I'm a Japanese guy who loves his wife and loves his friends. If we hate each other, we can't have a good dream. I'm always calm. But I will perform with full power. I want people to like my music. I want people to like my music, and I want people to like me.
