Survive Said The Prophet - Inside Your Head

An album of a dozen emotions.

Survive Said The Prophet could easily be called an unpredictable band. Even within just one album the musicians offer an interesting mix of gentle tracks and more extreme metal pieces with screams and heavy riffs. Just look at the band's discography. Speedy Fixed sits alongside calmer Wabi Sabi, while s p a c e [s] can easily tear apart listeners’ hearts with its aggressive and adrenaline-packed sound. The band doesn’t stand still, constantly switching from one style to another. Because of this, it was interesting to see which direction SSTP would choose for their latest full-length album, Inside Your Head.

In their latest work, the band offers a wide range of sounds. The album can easily set audiences on fire with action-packed pieces like Calm:Unison and MUKANJYO. Then it instantly switches to the danceable, upbeat Bridges, which offers simple and easy to remember sections. We guarantee that you’ll hum the ‘ta-ta-tata’ part for at least a few months. Moreover, on the disc one will also find the adolescent pop-rock of Last Dance Lullaby and, on the opposite side of the spectrum, the vicious Red and Never; Saying Never. These two tracks slowly and purposefully bring the atmosphere to its boiling point, only to ease it with desperate screams. At the end of the journey, you’ll find the lovely acoustic piece 3 A.M.. It is nearly impossible to avoid falling love with its kind but slightly sad lyrics and cozy mood.

As for the overall impression of the release, Inside Your Head is closer to the relatively calm Wabi Sabi rather than to the emotional whirlwinds of Fixed or s p a c e [ s ]. This time, instead of the heavy tracks like T R A N S l a t e d or the crazy ride of Fool’s Gold, the band offers a more melodic sound and clear vocals. SSTP lowers the amount of action on the album in favour of creating a more atmospheric work. All of the songs differ from one another, and each one is telling its own story. Every listener will find something special here for themselves, both in terms of music and lyrics.

Despite all the variety in the songs, the album is very easy to listen to. It transitions smoothly between tracks, inviting listeners sometimes to mosh, sometimes to dance, or even just to stop for a little while and take a breather. Inside Your Head is a good companion, and time passes quickly while listening to it. This is true for all of SSTP’s releases, to be fair.

With their fifth full album, Survive Said The Prophet have mixed seemingly incompatible genres, and, in their own roguish way, they've managed to create a work of a dozen emotions. It's another great addition to the band's vivid discography.
