In the past 30 years, GLAY has become one of the most iconic J-rock bands in the Land of the Rising Sun. It's not an exaggeration to say that they count amongst the biggest selling bands ever in Japan. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their GLAY Mobile project, they’ve decided to spoil their fans with a very special tour. But what made this show so special?

Well, the answer is in the title of the tour. Firstly, this is the last tour during the Heisei era (January 8th, 1989 to April 30th, 2019). This is the opportunity for everyone to celebrate the end of this era. In this case it means that we had the chance to hear some very rare and old songs from their repertoire such as the catchy KISSIN' NOISE, the very indie sounding Flowers Gone, or the surprising medley with the energetic BURST, the beautiful RAIN, and then BURST again.

Secondly, it was during the Christmas season. This one is easy to guess, since it's the most wonderful time of the year. GLAY offered both Christmas songs and a bunch of new songs. Urei no prisoner and YOUR SONG, their most recent releases, have the common point of being very fun pop songs. YOUR SONG is particularly efficient in a live show as we could witness the audience jumping while
repeating the "Oh! Oh! Oh! Doo-bee Doo-wop!" with a lot of energy. We even enjoyed a brand new song called The light of my life, a wonderful ballad that captivated the whole audience.

Thirdly, the "Survival" in the tour's title was a reference to the most incredible live the band had ever done in 1999 in front of 200,000 people (their biggest live in Japan). And indeed we weren’t disappointed since pretty much half of the set were songs used during this legendary live.

It was truly funny to hear how surprised the audience was as they discovered the songs one after the other. One of the most relevant situations were when the first notes of summer FM resounded. Immediately everyone spontaneously exclaimed "Hisashiburi!", meaning "it’s been a while!"

Finally we've to congratulate the band on their performance. The scenography was simple but efficient with a lot of laser effects; everyone was very joyful and performed without a hitch. And of course TERU and TAKURO as usual communicated a lot with the audience. TAKURO was especially funny—he scolded the fans for not sending him enough letters recently and just after asked if anyone saw "Bohemian Rhapsody" at the theater ...

Overall that’s all we expected from such showmen. The only regret we may have was not being able to listen to some of the most iconic songs of the band such as Yuuwaku, I’m in Love, or Winter, again, but to be honest it didn't diminish the pleasure we had in rediscovering all the other songs during the live show. This year GLAY will celebrate their 25th anniversary as a major band, so stay tuned for new information!
