2009/2010

From the 7,000 hopefuls who participated in the avex Idol Audition 2010 held in late December 2009, twenty four girls were selected for the final. From these finalists, twelve were selected to form the group SUPER☆GiRLS on December 6th, 2010. The new group celebrated their debut with their first album Chouzetsu shoujo, released on December 22nd, 2010 on the iDOL Street label.

2011

Their first single, Ganbatte seishun, was released in April 2011. In October 2011 their third single, Joshiryoku←Paradise, won first place on the Oricon Daily Chart and second place on the Weekly Chart. In November of the same year, SUPER☆GiRLS won a "New Artist Award" at the 53rd Japan Record Awards. As is the case for many members of idol groups, Arai Reira began modelling, featuring regularly for fashion magazine "JJ" from 2011 to 2014.

2012

Akita Eri graduated, as officially leaving a J-idol group is known, in February 2012 to concentrate on her studies. In April 2012, regular TV show "SUPER☆GiRLS no chouzetsu Adventure" began broadcasting on the Pigoo HD TV channel. Miyazaki Rina acted, alongside other idols, in the horror movie "Kotsutsubo" which was released in May. In July 2012, 100,000 copies of Puri puri Summer Kiss were sold and the group wass awarded a gold disc by Recording Industry Association of Japan. In October 2012 the group participated in the "Fure! Fure! Fragrance!" campaign to promote the Jeanne Arthes fragrance brand.

2013

The group celebrated their third anniversary on June 11th, 2013 with a concert at Tokyo’s famous martial arts gymnasium, the Nippon Budokan. This was also the year that Kaede Kano left the group for personal reasons. SUPER☆GiRLS starred in the TV drama series "Chouzetsu Zekkyou Land", shown on CBC and TBS from July 27th to September 25th, 2013. Tanaka Mirei, Shimura Rika and Maeshima Ami performed as voice actresses in the anime movie "Hunter x Hunter -The Last Mission-", which was released in Japan in December 2013. SUPER☆GiRLS released three singles simultaneously on December 4th, 2013 as three separate sub-units, Twinkle Veil, Candy Macchiato and Maeshima Ami, covering songs by idols of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

2014

In January 2014, SUPER☆GiRLS, together with other Japanese idols, made an international appearance at the Kawaii Pop Fes by @Jam in Taiwan. The first lead singer of SUPER☆GiRLS, Yasaka Saori, graduated on February 23rd, 2014, with Shimura Rika taking over as the group’s leader. Three new members, Asakawa Nana, Uchimura Risa and former member of the Party Rockets, Watanabe Koume, joined the group and founded the second generation of SUPER☆GiRLS.

In April 2014 all the members of SUPER☆GiRLS participated in the Hapalua, Hawaii’s half marathon. Mizote Ruka won first place in the category "Female 15-19 years" with Arai Reira taking second place. In May 2014 Arai Reira, Tanaka Mirei, Goto Aya and Maeshima Ami appeared in the marketing campaign, "Koi mizugi", modelling swimsuits for retailer Ito-Yokado. Tanaka Mirei acted in the Fuji TV drama "First Class", together with famous Japanese actress Sawajiri Erika, while Miyazaki Rina acted in "Peach Boys" in July 2014. Also in July, Tanaka Mirei’s first photo book "Mirei" was published and Arai Reira designed team travel uniforms for SUPER☆GiRLS.

In September 2014 Miyazaki Rina acted in the movie "Alps Jogakuen" together with members of other idol groups. Another photo book, the group’s third, titled "Revolution", was released in the same month. In October Tanaka Mirei and Miyazaki Rina participated in a food marketing campaign and Miyazaki Rina also appeared in the stage play Debug Treasure, together with Kanazawa Yuki (GEM). A month later Shimura Rika, Watanabe Koume and Tanaka Mirei were chosen as exclusive models for the Vanquish Venus fashion brand. The 4th iDOL Street Sports Festival was also held this month. SUPER☆GiRLS, Cheeky Parade and GEM participated in various sporting disciplines.

Shimura Rika acted in the Fuji TV show "Osaremon". The winter-like finale of the year 2014 was an advertising campaign for the Tokyu Snow Resort, in which Arai Reira, Shimura Rika, Miyazaki Runa and Tanaka Mirei participated as Super Snow Girls.

2015

In January 2015 Mizote Ruka celebrated her 18th birthday with her debut as solo live performer. She covered Alicia Keys' song If I Ain't Got You on the piano. The group’s twelfth single, Gira gira Revolution, released in January 2015, was also a promotional song for Tokyo Resort Services PR campaign "Fuyu shika ikenai tabi ga aru". Shimura Rika, Sekine Yuna (Cheeky Parade) and Kanazawa Yuki (GEM) appeared regularly from January 2015 on the Chiba TV show "Harajuku Base" about Harajuku fashion style.

Twenty one members of the groups SUPER☆GiRLS, Cheeky Parade and GEM performed in the stage show Chouzetsu☆Utagekidan 2015 ~Super World☆Returns~ at the Tokyo DDD Aoyama Cross Theatre in February 2015, in which the teams were led by Watanabe Koume, Mizorogi Seran and Murakami Rana.

Goto Aya graduated from the group in March 2015. Asakawa Nana achieved the perfect score of 100 on the special idol knowledge exam, organized by iDOL Street. Fans could take the exam too and those who passed were awarded a commemorative badge and an invitation to a special event.

Tanaka Mirei acted in the drama "Yokoso, wagaya e" which ran on Fuji TV from April to June 2015. In May 2015 SUPER☆GiRLS modelled bathing suits in the new version of the "Koi mizugi" advertising campaign for Ito-Yokado. Besides that, Tanaka Mirei was chosen as an exclusive model for fashion magazine "Jelly" in June 2015. Weekly Playboy magazine published sexy pictures of Asakawa Nana in May 2015, increasing her popularity and earning her the nickname "once in 1,000 years baby face huge breasts idol", in reference to Hashimoto Kanna (Rev. from DVL).

The music video of their single Icchatte yacchatte released in August 2015 is a homage to their second single Max! Otome gokoro. The group appear in bikinis again and compete in various games such as limbo, balloon bursting and watermelon eating. Also in August 2015, SUPER☆GiRLS appeared in a 60-minute live show, supported by New Balance, in which they wore the brand’s running shoes on stage.

In September, Arai Reira’s first style book, "Am I Idol? Or Not?", was published including pictures of her in lingerie. The following month, Tanaka Mirei starred as a beautiful baseball team manager in the drama "Watashi wo koushien ni tsurette" that featured during the variety show "Sukatto Japan". Also in October there was another show on TV Tokyo that was moderated by group members.

In November Asakawa Nana, Maeshima Ami, Watanabe Koume (all SUPER☆GiRLS), Nizorogi Seran (Cheeky Parade), Murakami Rana, Iyama Maho, Morioka Yu, Oguri Kako, Takeda Maya, Minamiguchi Nana, Kanazawa Yuki (all GEM), Matsunaga Nene (Girls Street Audition) appeared in the stage show Girls Street Theater 2015 Za Hana Miyo Concerto. In December Miyazaki Rina appeared in the stage play Hakase no ai shita suushiki.

2016

In February 2016, the group’s former lead singer Yasaka Saori performed a solo concert with a rock band and Arai Reira appeared as co-moderator of the radio show "English Jukebox" on Tokyo FM.

In March, the group’s fourth album Super★Castle was released, featuring the song Karei naru V!ctory. In the same month, Watanabe Koume participated in a marketing campaign for Morinaga’s Okashi Print sweets. A month later Maeshima Ami and Miyazaki Rina performed in the stage play Kujira no kora wa sajou ni utau at the AiiA 2.5D Theatre, Tokyo.

Arai Reira wanted to continue her modelling career and so she graduated, together with Rino Katsuta, on June 25th, 2016 during the Idol Street Carnival. New members, a third generation, joined at the same time: Kidoguchi Sakurako (Sapporo Snow Loveits), Ishibashi Hotaru (Avex Artist Academy), Ozawa Runa (Nagoya Chubu), Abe Yumeri (Tokyo Yume Pyo Gumi) and Nagao Shiori (Nagoya Chubu). Maeshima Ami became the new lead singer after Shimura Rika. In August 2016 the group’s fourteenth single, Love Summer, was released. The last single of the year, Koi☆Kiremekeeshon!!!, was released in December.

2017

In January, the iDOL Street Dream Party 2017 tour at Sanrio Puroland started, featuring SUPER☆GiRLS alongside other idol groups. The February edition of "Top Yell" magazine featured an interview with Watanabe Koume. On March 5th, 2017 the official SUPER☆GiRLS website announced that Maeshima Ami would leave the group at the end of March to begin a solo career. They expressed thanks for the support for Maeshima Ami as lead singer in the group, and hoped for further support for her and for the SUPER☆GiRLS.
