Hours before their performance at 49 CJMC in Monterrey, Nuevo Léon, Mexico, JaME had the opportunity to talk with rui and rin from Misaruka WDP. They shared with us their expectations of Mexico and spoke a little Spanish, which they’re trying to perfect for future visits to Latin America.

Welcome to Mexico, Misaruka WDP! How do you feel being here?

rui: (in Spanish) I’m happy to be in Mexico. It’s a great country to visit.
rin: Mexico and its culture are very beautiful. I really like the city where we are now, especially that impressive mountain*.

*He’s referring to the “Cerro de la Silla”, a mountain located within Monterrey.

Since this is your first time in Mexico, could you please tell us what image you had of the country and what your first impressions were?

rin: Tequila, tacos… (laughs).
rui: Beautiful mountain, chili, jalapeño chili, Corona beer… I love Corona beer. We like the fans; they are very devoted and they show a lot of warmth.

How would you describe your music and the artistic world around Misaruka?

rui: Misaruka’s music is very bright as it has a bit of metal and rock at the same time, as well as a beautiful story.

The stories of Misaruka’s songs are usually related to your outfits. Can you tell us the story of your current outfit? Where did the idea come from?

rin: For this occasion, we chose the outfit that we liked the most.
rui: I like to wear an outfit that fans could imitate. I hope they like it and that I can find someone dressed like us.

What is the main difference between performing as Misaruka WDP and as Misaruka? What’s the difference about your live performances?

rin: What distinguishes these projects the most are the members, since this time there are only two of us. It makes travelling abroad simpler.
rui: That’s right. Sometimes it’s easier and more practical that just some of the band members travel abroad.

What are some of your best memories from Misaruka's career so far?

rui: The most memorable moment so far was when we recorded our band’s DVD at TSUTAYA O-WEST.
rin: Yes, it was a great experience since it was our first big challenge in a pretty big place, and it was very exciting because of the fans’ support.

Based on your experience, how difficult is it to connect with audiences who don’t necessarily speak Japanese?

rin: The difference in language doesn't usually complicate things, because music is always music. The important thing is that the notes or musical arrangements connect with fans’ emotions.

Have you learned a few words in Spanish to surprise your fans?

rin: “Eres bonita.” [You’re pretty]
rui: “Quiero una novia.” (laughs) [I want a girlfriend]

What song do you enjoy performing the most?

rui: Right now, the song I enjoy singing the most is what do you want since it’s a song fans react positively to and get very excited at. We haven’t released it on an album yet.
rin: I love to play Rogation on stage since this song has a very long guitar solo. I enjoy it because of the fans’ reaction at seeing the way I play it on stage.

What are your musical influences?

rin: I'm strongly influenced by Versailles, especially HIZAKI. I like his style and the way he plays guitar.
rui: I have many influences since I have friends in many different bands, like Pentagon and Matenrou Opera. I take inspiration from them for new projects.

What’s coming for Misaruka WDP in the future? Can we expect a new release?

rin: “We dominate all the world” - that’s what we want to achieve with our music.

Finally, could you please leave a message for JaME’s readers?

rui: I’m really happy to be in Mexico, it’s very enjoyable. I want to return to this country and visit Latin America too!
rin: (in Spanish) I'm happy to be in Mexico. I love Mexico! I love you! Thank you very much! We hope you have fun at the show!

JaME would like to thank Misaruka WDP, Royal Stage and its interpreter for this interview opportunity.
