KING BROTHERS

KING BROTHERS

Their US years, 1998-2001

Not fluent in English, our « three yellow fellows » decide to communicate using the international language: rock 'n' roll; a kind of rock that has nothing more to prove for years. The Indies scene from NYC would be the salvation for these three Japanese guys who signed under the Bulb Record label. Their first album, The King Brothers, was released in early 1998 in the USA.

They tour in small clubs of the East Coast, which improved their sound significant. In 1999, they signed under another Indies label and release their album Blue. Most of their lyrics were in English, which helped them to seduce the local music critics.

But our three unrooted friends didn’t forget their mother country, and Japan didn’t forget them either. In 2000, they performed in two of the biggest rock festivals in Japan: the Rising Sun Festival and the Fuji Rock Festival. They were even presented as the new rock revelation of the year 2000. Their period in Japan ended during the "That Summer Feeling" concert, on which they performed beside The High Lows and The Neatbeats at the end of August.

They went back to America and signed under Deckrec Records and release their new album RED in the USA and in the UK.

Back to the promise land (Japan), 2001-2003

In 2001, they gone back to Japan and signed under Toshiba Records. They released Rainbow which is still considered their best album, then started a Japanese tour before they play again at the Fuji Rock Festival.

At the end of August, they went back to NYC and performed during one the most unforgettable live performance of the year, a 5 hour show, with thee michelle gun elephant and The High Lows. The same year, they release their mini-album 6x3, produced by Jon Spencer.

A new road, 2003-…

The year 2003 brought forth the release of their album 13. They also have their first collaboration with the famous band Elephant Kashimashi.

In September of 2003, Jun Fujimoto left The King Brothers because he disagreed with the less radical orientation of the band. He was replaced by tour-support drummer Shinji Wada who fit easily to the expectations of the two remaining members. Together, they release the album Blues.

They came back to America in 2005 and toured during the first six months of the year before to going back to Japan.

2006 seems to be a quiet year for the band with the departure of Shinji Wada. The King Brothers only participated in the Nirvana tribute album.
