SUPER DROP BABIES includes four members: guitarist Shin and bassist Hitoki are well-known from Kuroyume, Masatoshi Yasuda sang in the act Of-J and drummer Amiya composed and played drums in his own band called AQUA PLANET, where also Masatoshi appeared as a guest in the form of backing vocals. Shin on the other hand knew Masatoshi from his old band CERACEE (in the time before Kuroyume). Amiya had also worked as a coach for the interesting baseball team called THE SUINAN DANGERS.
The group, formed by long time friends, started January 25th 2004 on Nagoya music farm as a session band, playing heavier music like Sex Pistols and The Damned.
After a few months, the members wanted to create their own songs. The material was composed by Shin and Hitoki, and both of them shared the credits equally. The recording was done over the summer.
The result was the first album WELCOME TO THE DESTRUCTION, which was released September 22nd and included 9 tracks and a maxi-single jiyuu e no kaidan to accompany the album. The maxi-single was released the day after, 23rd, with the press of a limited 500 copies.
The first tour SUPER DROP BABIES GR8! TOUR 2004 started quite naturally after the release of the album, in September-October 2004. It was continued with 4 performances in November-December, under the name GR8! TO BE CONTINUED.
The following year's tour started at the beginning of the year, January 17th, and ended on April 13th. The maxi-single Official Bootleg was released on February 18th. This time the logo on the cover seemed to be based heavily on one of Iron Maiden's. The single only had one song on it, a new version of SPECIAL. It could only be bought while attending a concert.
The maxi-single called SDBLUNCHER was supposed to come out in July 2005, with an extra DVD. In the end, the release and other activities were pushed back after Shin fell ill and was taken to the hospital for a while.
The members are very eager to cover the music of different bands, and there's no rock or humor missing in their projects. One proof of that is the THE SLUT BANKS/Zi:Kill cover band THE SUINAN DANGERS. The name indicates to a baseball team, where some of the members of THE SLUT BANKS played. The band's Zi:Kill portion was named Si:Koll. Besides Shin and Amiya, there's also Yuki (ex.ROUAGE) and Saki (ex.Sleep My Dear) playing their part in this cover band.
For a short while there was also super chorop babies, where the musicians of SUPER DROP BABIES traded instruments. Shin sang, Amiya played bass, Masatoshi guitar, and Hitoki sat behind the drums. The last concert of this special project was called ASS PARADE, held on March 25th on Nagoya music farm. Other acts playing on that evening were Hitoki's long time side project SSS, Amiya's AQUA PLANET (that ceased activities later on the spring), SUPER DROP BABIES themselves and dibs.
Even though their career started off promising, the year 2006 ended up as a quiet one. Their official website wasn't updated and there was no news, until the end of December when Masatoshi returned to the stage with a new band. Will SUPER DROP BABIES return or will the band be buried without a last goodbye? Time will tell.
