Marmarsa-mu

Marmarsa-mu initially started activities under the name of DIZZY DRIVE. The band was formed in 2004 after leader/guitarist/vocalist masa left his previous band, Spiky. The band held their first concert at Y2K Roppongi on January 29, with several more lives following. After a while in his new band, masa's talent as a musician was becoming increasingly recognized. Before Spiky, he was most well known for being a member of Gackt's band.

The original lineup of DIZZY DRIVE consisted of masa, Tak (ex-Calmando Qual) on guitar, masanori on bass and AKITO (ex-CRY< MU >) on drums.

Their first demo CD was released on May 22, 2005 and had a limited pressing of only 300 copies. The CDs were only for sale at the Kashiwa CLUB ZaX live event and sold out almost immediately. It was very soon after that landmark show that bassist masanori parted ways with the band and was replaced by Junn. DIZZY DRIVE then toured throughout the summer and performed at all three CLUB QUATTRO live houses. They then followed up with a second demo CD in July and a third in September. Each version was once again limited to only 300 copies and sold out quickly.

In Spring 2006, DIZZY DRIVE produced their two most important releases. The first was their debut mini-album titled Super-Sonic, and the second was Evolution, a DVD of their concert performance with behind the scenes footage. During this period of time, the band toured extensively and participated in many in-store events to promote their music. The band seemed to be doing well until it was announced that the band was amicably breaking up. It was hinted that very soon the band would return in some form or another, so fans kept their hopes alive. To thank their loyal fans for their support, they produced copies of a one track single which they distributed as gifts.

During the short hiatus in band activities, masa continued to stay active in the music scene and joined two session bands that covered songs by BUCK-TICK and Luna Sea. He also joined his old band Spiky for a pair of temporary reunion concerts.

The brief break in band activities came to an end in September when the news that the band had been resurrected and renamed as Marmarsa-mu was released. Their comeback/debut concert took place at the Roppongi morph-tokyo, much to the delight of their loyal fans who were both surprised and excited at the band's new harder musical direction.

From the end of 2006 and early into 2007, the band toured and released a number of live-only demo CDs. But shortly into Marmarsa-mu's Spring tour, their schedule came to a sudden halt. masa was injured in an accident and unable to perform. Several concerts were cancelled, but it was announced that the band would return after masa had recovered sufficiently.

A few months later in October 2007, the band played their comeback gig in Tokyo, which was a relief to their fans. However, their triumphant return to the music scene was tinged with sadness due to the departure of their bassist Junn. This blow was one that the band did not fully recover from. It was announced in March 2008 that the remaining members of Marmarsa-mu were going their separate ways and ceasing band activities. At their last gig at their favorite venue, the Roppongi morph-tokyo, a final "best of" CD album went on sale which contained songs from their short two year career as Marmarsa-mu.

Since the break up of the band, there has been little news from the former band members about any possible future participation in the music scene.
