Disbanded rock group THE YELLOW MONKEY, who would have been celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, will be honored with a tribute album called THIS IS FOR YOU~THE YELLOW MONKEY TRIBUTE ALBUM on December 9th.
THE YELLOW MONKEY emerged in the rock scene in 1989, officially disbanding fifteen years later, in 2004. During this period, the band reached a huge level of success, with millions of albums sold, several performances at Nippon Budokan and also a one-man concert at Tokyo Dome in 2001. Their song TACTICS, released in 1996, was used as the first opening theme song to the extremely popular anime "Rurouni Kenshin".
THIS IS FOR YOU~THE YELLOW MONKEY TRIBUTE ALBUM will feature fifty artists with songs split into two discs. Among the names confirmed so far are rock bands MUCC, TRICERATOPS, tacica, THE BACK HORN and Fujifabric, hip-hop singer KREVA, solo singers Okuda Tamio and Hata Motohiro and several others artists.
On the same day, a new special box called Mekara Uroko LIVE DVD BOX will be released featuring footage from some of THE YELLOW MONKEY's performances at the Budokan and also from their one-man at Tokyo Dome in 2001. Another release, titled COMPLETE SICKS, will come out on January 22nd 2010. It will feature their 1997 album SICKS in the Blu-spec CD format, an unpublished demo CD and a recording documentary DVD.
