POLYSICS

major - active (1997 - )
If you listen to the POLYSICS you don't have to listen hard to realise where their inspiration is coming from. The band's frontman Hayashi revealed that the band was formed out of his respect and love for Devo. With the roots of new-wave and the attitude of punk-rock, the POLYSICS please their fans with the most energetic live shows you can imagine. Onstage they wear the wildest costumes from outer space, use multiple languages including English, Japanese and a made up, even more out of space, language while performing their very original mix of highly energetic, sometimes nervous but very driving music

The band's name originates from the "Korg Polysix" which was the first synthesizer owned by frontman Hayashi.

biography
Nowadays, the POLYSICS are known as the Japanese equivalent of Devo and when Hayashi formed the band back in the March of 1997, it was this band which was his inspiration. With a passion for New-Wave in his heart and POLY 2 and Junichi Sugai by his side, the band started to play in live-houses. In 1998 Kayo joined the band and their insane live performances soon caught the attention of the Deckrec/UK Project record label.

In February 1999 POLYSICS released their first album 1st P on the aforementioned record label. After this initial release POLY 2 left the band. Fumi replaced him as a support-member in June after the release of the 7-inch vinyl PLUS CHICKER EP.
With a new member and new inspiration the band continued to develop their electro-pop style into the until today known and for the POLYSICS typical new wave-synth pop-punk-style.

In the following August the band played at the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL and their 2nd album A*D*S*R*M!went on sale two months later.

POLYSICS performed their first live concert in the US at the SXSW 2000 festival in Austin/Texas which was soon followed by a tour in February 2000 supported by the Japanese indie band Number Girl . It was during this tour that, Hayashi finally met his inspiration, Mutato Muzika of Devo.

In April 2000 the band signed their major label contract with Ki/oon Records (Sony Music Entertainment Japan Inc.) and released their first single XTC.

The single was followed by their first major-album NEU which was released in September and soon after in March 2001 Fumi joined POLYSICS as a full member.

In March and April of 2001 the compilation HEY!BOB! MY FRIEND was released under Pony Canyon Records in Korea and for the USA the publishers name was Asian Man Records. In 2002 POLYSICS released two further albums and one EP.

The PV and Live DVD DVDVPVDVLIVE!! followed in March 2003 and at it was at this time that the band welcomed their new producer Alex Newport. The band then went to San Francisco to record their new album.

The 1st major album NEU was released by Asian Man Records in the US in July and the following headlining US-Tour in September brought the POLYSICS to 11 cities.
The tour was recorded and released afterwards as the PippikippippiP in USA!! DVD in the Japan and the US in February 2004.

Back in Japan, Junichi Sugai left POLYSICS, their 4th album National P went on sale and the POLYSICS TOUR 2003-2004 -National Pioneer- took place in December. The tour which made tour stops in 24 Japanese cities was supported by the drummer Ishimaru.

In 2004 POLYSICS released POLYSICS OR DIE, backed up by a huge, 94 date European tour, starting in the UK and working their way across the continent until all who witnessed their captivating live show were turned into die hard fans.

2005's Now Is The Time took things to a whole new level for the band. The band hit the road for their longest tour yet, including many high profile support slots including a show at the NEC arena in Birmingham supporting Kaiser Chiefs, who had personally invited the band to play.

It was not long before POLYSICS returned to the UK. Celebrating their tenth anniversary with the release of Karate House on 28th February 2007, their tenth year was a good one to say the least. The Polysics World Tour Or Die 2007 did exactly as it's name suggests, with highlights including a sold out show in front of 2000 fans in Paris, spots at the Wireless festival in Leeds and London, and, after the label boss witnessed their set at US show, a record contract with MySpace Records for the US (so impressed was he that the contract was given to them in their dressing room straight after the show).

On 22nd of August 08 the Gan-Shin sublabel Okami Records will release the new POLYSICS album We ate the machine all over Europe.
