In a statement issued by the police, it has been confirmed that singer and TV personality Hayami Kentaro struck and killed a woman on a pedestrian crossing on Saturday July 16th.
The incident, which occurred at 1:15PM, involved Okubo Sachiko (78) who was struck by Hayami's car as she crossed a pedestrian crossing in Kawagoe, Saitama. Mrs. Okubo was struck in the chest by the vehicle and later died in hospital around eleven-and-a-half hours after she was admitted.
The Kawagoe Police Station has confirmed that it plans to send papers on Hayami's case to prosecutors on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in death.
Hayami is best known for his role as host of NHK TV's "Okasan to issho" and his hit song Dango sankyoudai, which was released in 1999.
