During L’Arc~en~Ciel's three year long hiatus, the band's drummer yukihiro started up the solo musical project acid android. The band's musical style is quite different from his previous offerings with L’Arc~en~Ciel , and fans were surprised at the deliberate and harsh change in music style.

acid android's style can best be described as industrial rock; akin to the music of US bands Nine Inch Nails and Celldweller.

Hard guitar work and precise drum programming built the foundation of the band's musical output. However, acid android is not completely a solo project, as support musicians participate during performances alongside yukihiro.
