STEREOPONY

major - active (2007 - )
STEREOPONY is a young all-girl rock group that might remind some of Chatmonchy, but they definitely have their own style and flair. From slightly edgy pop-rock to cheery anthems, the three girls of STEREOPONY put their own catchy twist on their music, which encapsulates the joys and tribulations of being young and optimistic.

biography
STEREOPONY is an all-girl Japanese rock band that formed in Okinawa in 2007. The trio consists of vocalist and guitarist AIMI, bassist NOHANA and drummer SHIHO. Before their major debut, the band was known as MIXBOX, but they later changed their name to STEREOPONY.

The band broke into the music business on the Japanese rock radio program "School of Lock!" and was soon signed to Sony Music Japan's gr8! Records label. Their popularity skyrocketed as their song Hitohira no hanabira was used as the 17th ending theme for the anime series "Bleach." They released Hitohira... as a single on November 5th, 2008, and it ranked 25th on the Oricon Weekly Charts.

In 2009, the band made their US debut at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March and was very well received. The band also released four singles that year and their first full album. The song Namida no mukō was used as the second opening theme for season two of "Mobile Suit Gundam 00" and reached the number two spot on the Oricon, while I do it was the result of a collaboration with label mate singer/songwriter Yui.

The album Hydrangea ga saiteiru came out in the summer, and the band went on a short tour in Japan before releasing Smilife and Tsukiakari no michishirube; the latter song was the opening theme to the anime series "Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini." In December 2009, STEREOPONY's first live DVD was released.

In 2010, the band was invited to the US as guests of honor at AnimeNEXT. Their second album was released in June, and it included STEREOPONY's first cover single Hanbunko, originally released by Bivattchee in 2002.
